creepies & cryptids & and subscriber counts, oh my! it's 2008. youtube is on the rise, as is social media, and you're determined to make a name for yourself. whether on your own, or with a friend, you've started a channel, or a blog, or an account, and you fancy yourself an 'amateur ghost hunter' or 'paranormal investigator' if you're feeling fancy. you're 16-18, and you just know you're going to be famous. you've done your research, and you've been keeping up with the news, and a drought across the country has caught your eye. knowing that mothman sightings typically precede these tragedies, you pack up some bags and head over there to check it out. when you get there, however, you realize that these sightings aren't the only weird thing going on in this town. kidnappings, missing signposts, and electricity cuts are just a few of the things you notice. all of which come about with each new sighting of the mothman. you and a few others, who were also here to see mothman, get together with the goal of figuring out what's going on in town. maybe you're in a bit over your head, but when the police won't believe the townspeople, then maybe a group of teens should take the job. with the town high strung, and another issue about to come about, you and your camera equipment are ready to track down what mothman is doing, and figure out a way to stop it Starting level: 1-3 (?) Not entirely sure if it'll be 5e but i want it to be Puzzles: Medium Roleplay: High Combat: Medium Magic: Low [?] or Medium Death Wish: Medium Player Pitch: It's a bird! It's a plane! No, actually it's a large creature that locals in the area theorize to be the mothman! And by god are you going to go viral with this video!

languages and culture wow, you might say, this is earth. how on earth am i supposed to choose a fitting language for my character? you might continue, if i speak elvish but there are no elves, am i really speaking elvish at all? well, i have a simple answer to that! no! given that you're all humans, languages can't appeal to other races ! so, here's the vibe. pick your languages from earth languages, make them make a bit of sense. i will also give you the ability to learn things like latin and dead languages. but ! if you'd have occult knowledge, i'll let you take primordial, infernal, or celestial! good luck!

magic licenses and where they apply Hey kids! Have you ever wanted to learn about magic? [Enthusiastic childlike yeses offscreen, “Oh boy, would I!”] Well, you’re in luck! Maybe, I don’t know what you want. Magic is a powerful thing, you see. In the wrong hands it could even prove [staged gasp] deadly. And no one wants that, do they? So we (your friendly leaders) have systems in place to make sure magic doesn’t get into the Wrong Hands. The first part of that is the Magic License. Starting at 16 years old [staged wow!] you, yes you, can apply to get your license. Now that’s the easy part. This license requires some applications, some studying, and finally some tests. It’s like a mini college! Except more useful [“Wait- Jim cut that part out”] The Magic License Test will be covered in our next educational segment! Once you’ve acquired a magic license. What can you do? Well, magic! You can do what you’ve applied to do, and depending on your level (E being the lowest and S being the highest), you can perform magic in different areas! E licenses are restricted to Magic Only Spaces as well as home use and simple cantrips. These are best for our kiddos who still don’t know what they want to do with their magic! If you’re still learning, remember you can use a magic only space too! These spaces are built to make sure you don’t hurt others with your magic, and to make sure you learn in a safe comfortable environment. [Terms and conditions of each area may change. You may be responsible for damages, be sure to ask, not all are government funded.] Remember, you can always apply for a higher level later if you feel you’ve advanced!. .

Going up, there’s E – D – C – B – A – S licenses. E is our ‘learners’ permit! D is best for service workers who need magic, C is for those who are still studying their field (level 1), B is for professional level licenses (level 3) , and A is restricted to experts who have proven they can handle magic well (level 5)! S licenses are solely fo- [“Stop there”] Oh, I’m not supposed to talk about that? Alright, got it. Cut the S part out. We’re sure each one of you will find you can live your best life with or without magic. Just make sure you’re practicing it safely, whether it’s bloodline magic, learned magic, or given to you by some cr- Huh? I can’t mention those either? how to obtain a magic license and what each one does! [A man appears on screen. He is not the same as the last and his smile is a little too tight. He looks uncomfortable. his skin looks a little too tight as well, and his suit fits him a little oddly, like the suit jacket and pants are a little too long on him. ] So, we just learned what a magic license is, right? [Silence offscreen, before a small thump and a coughed childlike “..yes!”] So how do we get one? … How do we get one? [the narrator stares directly at the camera] Right! You take a test! But let’s start before that. Before you can even begin to take your test for your magic license, you must fill out an app-lee-cation. [The narrator holds up a piece of paper, it is blank.] I said, an app-lee-cation! [A hand appears on the side of the screen to take the paper. The screen cuts to static and then the camera seems to be focused on an unfilled application for a magic license] This app-lee-cation is your first step to learning magic! You learn some basic cantrips in school, but those are just theory. Unless your teacher’s been breaking the law! [The narrator forces a laugh. Another thump, and a chorus of other laughs join him, just as forced.] Once you fill out this form, you’ll get a letter in the mail telling you whether or not your application was approved! Right! The learner’s permit! With this E-Level license you’ll be able to access Magic Only Spaces that are useful for learning! You can use magic at home too, but make sure you ask your parental unit for assistance! [The scene cuts back to the narrator. The background is a bright blue and green cardboard cutout of a field. It looks as if it were made by middle schoolers for a play] After you’ve spent six months with this permit, you’ll be allowed to take your test! Depending on your app-lee-cation, you’ll be eligible to test for the D-Level license or the C-Level license. You will have to fill out another app-lee-cation [A hushed voice “It’s application”] app-lee-cation [A quiet thunk followed by a dragging sound] for this too! You need to tell us clearly and plainly what you want this license for. Once approved, you get to take a test! This test will test your magic skills in front of a panel of preapproved Government Magic Judges. They will test to see how safely, efficiently, calmly, and properly you can do magic! You start with a written test, move onto a practical exam, and finally a small interview with the Judges. No worries! We just want to make sure everyone knows what they’re getting into. The scores are then ranked up and you’ll get a score from 1-100 on [Safety] [Efficiency] [Knowledge] and [Magic]. This process is the same for all Levels above C as well! Except for S. We don’t talk about S level licenses! [The narrator’s smile grows a little wider] Once you get to the Higher Level licenses, the exam is much more difficult. So be sure to prepare adequately! cryptids and monsters but government official! this is dnd, where are the monsters and how are they different from cryptids? your local government official has forgotten to tell you this simple! monsters don't really 'exist'. at least not to the public eye. as far as you guys know, they were wiped off of earth some thousands of years ago, hunted to extinction and withheld from their energy sources so the populations didn't continue to threaten mankind. humans are pretty innovative, and you learn this one right alongside dinosaurs and evolutionary theory in your younger years. monsters, beasts, constructs, celestials, ghosts, abberrations, cryptids, vampires, werewolfs, lions, tigers, and bears oh my? they're all silly and made up. right? after all, who would believe that people can shift into animals without a magic license? and different realms? that's silly! you're here on earth
