When Kaoru finally returned to his apartment, he was exhausted. The sun was low in the sky, hovering just over the horizon. However, the tiredness that washed over him was different than the previous days. Rather than an almost lifeless husk, he felt rather... invigorated? That wasn't to say the day hadn't been difficult, it was -- and he had a bruised wrist (among others) and the memories to prove it -- but it was... far less dreary than the last year or two of his life had been.
He struggled a bit with the key, finally managing to push the door open and step through. The reason for his struggle was evident as he stepped in, two tote bags on his arms that he quickly carried into the kitchen. He bumped the door shut with his foot, humming to himself as he set things down.
He was a little disheveled, yes, but that was the territory that came with a busy day. His blonde hair looked a bit mussed by the wind, white button up undone three or so buttons at the top and rolled up to his elbow. His pants, while not dress pants, but just khakis, hadn't creased too badly during the day, so overall he looked... alright?
He hadn't called out to Rei as he walked in, putting away the groceries he'd picked up and taking a brief moment to situate himself. He hadn't been able to calmly shop in a while, always restricted by the few hours he had free in a day. It was a strangely nice feeling.
Although, his mind had been everywhere today. Between his father, Rei, and the conversation he'd had with Izumi, his mind was working in overtime, and if Rei stepped into the kitchen, it would likely take him a bit to notice. (edited)
